As a devoted Christian, you’ll notice many people around you with the names of God. It’s common for Christian parents to use names from the bible when naming their children. Not only do these names display a family’s devotion to their faith, but the names hold special meanings as well.

When naming your own little one or simply wanting to learn more about various powerful God names, continue reading below. Here’s our list of several names you can find in the scriptures and their meanings.

1. Yahweh

The name Yahweh means, “the Lord.” It originates from the Hebrew word meaning, “I am.” This is the proper name for God.

When Moses was told by God to lead the Israelites out of Egypt, he was frightened. He was faced with a great task ahead of him and needed God to reassure him. God told him that they would follow because of who was sending him and how much honor was in God’s name.

When Moses asked God who he should tell the Israelites sent him, God responded, “I AM WHO I AM.” Moses was told to tell the Israelites that I AM sent him to them.

2. Jehovah Rapha

The name Jehovah Rapha brings hope to all of those who’ve asked for healing. The name means healer, “The Lord who heals you.” This name is a reminder that God understands we all need healing and promises to never leave us.

His healing might not always come to us in the way we want or expect, but it’s important for those who have faith to remain confident in the work of The Lord. This name connects God to each of us through our hearts as his own children. It’s our privilege to be called his sons and daughters, and this name reminds us we can always go to him when in need.

4. Elohim

Elohim strictly means, “God.” It refers to his might and power. This is the name for God that shows he’s the one and only God.

We’re reminded every day that God is the Elohim. We’re reminded of this each time the sunrises and sets. We’re reminded of this when we look up at the stars each night and into the eyes of our loved ones who he created.
