How To Sell Your Timeshare

Did you know that by 2025 there are expected to be about 1.8 billion international visitors to the United States each year? So you might have a timeshare under your belt if you love to travel.

While it might have been exciting initially, now you might wish you could sell it. But how?

It could seem tricky to sell your timeshare, but it doesn’t have to be. Read this guide on how to sell your timeshare and be done with it once and for all!

Selling Your Timeshare

First, check the hilton grand vacation fees or the other timeshare you have. Read up on the contract and how much you have left on your mortgage.

You might be tempted to sell your timeshare on its own, but it’s best to work with an advisor. Reach out to a real estate agent who specializes in timeshares. Find out how many they’ve sold in the past.

Consider a timeshare listing company and ask them about their experience. Research each company on the Better Business Bureau before you proceed.

Avoid companies that try to get you to join their vacation club. You’ll want to ensure they’re not a scam company. Some of them could promise you the world and then run with your money.

Consider the Resort

Depending on the time you’ve had the timeshare, some companies will buy them back. Some have an internal process for selling them.

Some resorts will take advantage of this to try and encourage you to consider an upgrade. Upgrades could go on top of the current contract instead of replacing it.

How To Sell a Timeshare

Another option is through a resale market. There are many buyers who’d like to add more timeshares to their existing ownerships. The most important aspect is choosing a company to list through that you trust.

If you haven’t paid any outstanding or maintenance fees, you’ll need to pay for those. Buyers often pay closing costs when they make an offer on your timeshare. Since terms are negotiable, it’s up to you whether to accept or decline the offer.

You can avoid upfront fees if you sell the timeshare through a licensed brokerage. Don’t pay thousands of dollars in fees just to sell your timeshare.

Avoid Scams

Avoid expensive lawyers and high upfront fees. Check the American Resort Development Association and the Better Business Bureau.

Avoid talking to those who call you from an unknown number. They’ll call owners of timeshares with a supposed buyer.

Scammers will ask you to place funds in escrow until the sale is final. Once they receive their money, they disappear.
