What Are the Most Common Commercial AC Problems?

Air conditioners account for about 6% of the United States’ total energy consumption every year. Many of these units are used to control the temperature in commercial buildings like offices, factories, or supermarkets.

With so many air conditioners up and down the country, people are bound to run into AC problems from time to time.

If you own a commercial property and you’re struggling to figure out why you have a broken air conditioner, then this article is for you.

Let’s take a look at some of the most common air conditioner issues.

Inconsistent Air Temperature

One of the most common HVAC problems in commercial buildings is the air fluctuating between hot and cold, rather than staying at a consistent temperature.

There could be several causes of inconsistent air cooling. A faulty thermostat is a good place to start. You could also be struggling with a leak in your ductwork.

Refrigerant Leaks

A leaky air conditioner is never a good sign. Your HVAC system works similarly to a refrigerator, with cooling liquid used to cool the air that’s being emitted from the vents.

Occasionally, your system will have a problem and the refrigerant will begin to leak. A refrigerant leak can cost you a lot of money. You have to pay for the refrigerant that you use, and a leak means you’ll be using more and more liquid just to cool your building.

If you notice signs of a leak, then you should schedule some commercial air conditioning repair

Damaged Rooftop Units

The vast majority of commercial air conditioning units are situated on the roof of the building. Of course, having them situated so high on the building stops them from being tampered with, but it does also leave them exposed to the elements.

Intense heat can heat up the components. Or high winds can blow a lot of dust and dirt into the system, clogging it up.

Strange Noises

HVAC units are noisy things. The longer you spend around them the more accustomed you’ll get to the noise they should be making, and the noises they shouldn’t.

If you notice any strange noises coming from your air conditioning unit, then it’s likely that something isn’t working properly within the system. You should contact a repairman straight away if you notice any new and unusual noises coming from your system.

Clogged Drainage Lines

Your HVAC system uses liquid to function, and it also draws humidity out of the air. As such, the system needs a place to drain waste liquid.

The liquid is drained from the system through things called drain lines. Much like toilets and sinks, these lines can become clogged with dirt and become backed up. If your drain lines clog and the system can’t drain liquid, it will stop working.

AC Problems can Negatively Affect Your Business

Air conditioning is an important part of any commercial building. You want your customers and employees to feel comfortable in your building at all times, especially during the hot summer months. Any AC problems are likely to disrupt your business and could end up costing you money, you’re always best off getting any problems seen to.
