How Do You Get Rid of Water Stains?

Did you know that Americans spend around 6 hours per week cleaning their homes?

One thing that often takes way more time than it should, is trying to get rid of stubborn water stains. Water stains can build up on anything from your toilet to your coffee table. Minerals in the water deposit onto the surface, and this can make it a nightmare to clean.

Fortunately, you’ve come to the right place if you’re interested in water stain removal. We’re here with a few simple tips that’ll have your surfaces looking shiny and new again.

Read on to find out more.

Vinegar

Vinegar is a classic multi-purpose tool and often makes up the base of many commercial cleaning products. This all-natural solution works miracles on water stains.

Add some white vinegar to a spray bottle and spray it on any stains; leave it for around 15 minutes before wiping it off. Some stains will instantly disappear; others may need some scrubbing with a toothbrush.

Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide (bleach) is another valuable tool for bathroom and kitchen water stains. You can use it on bathtubs and any metal fixtures. Apply it to the area and leave it for around 30 minutes; then remove it with a sponge and repeat if necessary.

For more stubborn stains, try adding cream of tartar and mixing it into a paste before applying it to the stains.

A word of warning – hydrogen peroxide will bleach any fabrics it touches, so be extremely careful and use gloves while handling it.

Toothpaste

Surprisingly, fluoride toothpaste is very effective at removing hard water stains. Try adding a small amount to a (spare) toothbrush and scrubbing at surfaces with stains.

Leave some toothpaste on the stains for around 5 minutes and then rinse and scrub thoroughly – ensure you’re using a fluoride toothpaste as it’s the fluoride that breaks down the minerals causing the water stains.

Toothpaste isn’t as powerful as bleach or vinegar, but it can work wonders on small fixtures, dishware, and glass surfaces.

Specialist Cleaning Products

Although the previous hacks are effective in most cases, sometimes you need a specialist cleaning product. For example, if you’re wondering how to clean a boat and eliminate water stains, it’s best to buy a boat hull cleaner rather than concocting your own solution.

If you’re noticing water stains that just won’t go away, check out the supermarket’s cleaning aisle for any vinegar or bleach-based products.

Say Goodbye to Water Stains

Whether you want to remove water stains in the bathroom or on a boat, these tips will help you restore your surfaces to their former glory.

So, time to go shopping for the stain removal essentials and get started. Failing that, you can hire a professional to help you.
