Topical Skin Care: How Do We Treat Our Skin?
Wearing masks consistently for the past two years has ruined our skin. There’s even a term for the phenomenon. It’s called maskne, and we’ve all experienced it at some point during the pandemic.
This phenomenon boosted sales in the skin care industry because people were trying to manage their breakouts. There are so many topical skin care options available that it’s hard to know what to choose. Figuring out what your skin needs are can be a hassle.
There are some things to consider when selecting your skin care products. Having skin conditions may complicate your search, but it’s not impossible to find the right products for you. Continue reading for tips on how to best care for your skin.
Skin Care Products
There are skin care products for various skin types. But, there are some main staples to have in your skin care line-up. The first thing I am going to talk about is the importance of having a good exfoliant.
Exfoliants, or face scrubs, rid the face of any dead skin cells. Some face scrubs have salicylic acid in them to help the face shed dead skin cells quicker. It’s a chemical, so I suggest you look at the salicylic acid sds to learn more about its properties.
The next thing to research is a face wash. This is gentler than a face scrub and can be used daily to wash away the impurities of the day. If you have drier skin, buy a face wash with moisturizer in it.
This brings me to the importance of having a moisturizer. After washing your face, you need to put moisture back into your skin. You don’t want anything too heavy because then you will clog your pores.
Face toners are optional and it really depends on your skin type. But toners tighten the skin and minimize your pores after you have cleansed your face. You can buy it as a mist spray or a squeeze bottle.
Skin Care Routine
Now, let’s talk about creating a skin care routine. You need to give yourself at least 20 minutes to do your full skin care routine. Start with a face scrub to buff away any dead skin cells.
You only want to exfoliate your face 2-3 times a week to avoid skin irritation. After you scrub your face, use a gentle face wash to wash away any scrub residue. You can use your face wash as often as you please.
After you wash your face, follow up with a toner. The best toners are part astringent and part plant extract. End your skin care routine with a good moisturizer.
