Googling “Best Biking Trails Near Me?” 3 Can’t Miss Trails

Did you know in terms of the physical science definition of work, bikes are the most efficent machines ever created? That means there’s an almost equal amount of input energy to output energy.

That may be why biking is such a popular hobby. In fact, people plan entire trips to seek out new biking routes.

If you’re tired of searching for the best biking trails near me and want to know where to go biking, we’ve put together three must-do trails for you, below.

1. The Down East Sunrise Trail

You know what destination doesn’t get enough credit as it should? The Northeast. New England has beautiful summers, breathtaking mountains, and the East Coast Greenway.

Never heard of it? It’s a 3,000 mile stretch of multi-use paths that spread from Maine to Miami. We told you it didn’t get enough credit!

This specific stretch, the Down East Sunrise Trail, is a respectable 87 miles long. On it, you’ll experience beautiful meadows, lush forests, and beautiful calm, reflective ponds. Some riders say they’ve seen Moose, but deers and turkey are more likely.

You’ll find this trail in Maine, which is worth a trip with or without a bike. They call it vacationland for a reason! Have a lobster roll for us, eh?

2. The Flume Trail

Do you always choose virtual rides on your stationary bike with views of the mountains? Are you tired of having to see those sights through a screen and want a gorgeous (but challenging) trail to ride, for real?

Then you’ll need to head to Northern California. The Flume Trail is a challenging (think mountain biking) trail that traverses gorgeous Lake Tahoe. It’s part of the 165-mile Tahoe Rim Trail, which you can attempt if you’d like.

Yes, lake Tahoe is that big – it doesn’t get enough credit either. The only downside of this trail is that you’ll need to stay in Tahoe-associated resorts, which can get expensive quickly.

This trail is best in the summer since Tahoe gets decent snow. If you can swing it, we recommend going during the week. It is a tourist destination and going during the week will cut down on crowds — and costs.

3. Trail 404

We tried to pick a bike trail for every part of the country, so you could really find the best biking trails near me. Colorado is our attempt at the middle of the country. Yes, we know it’s a little west of the actual middle, but the “flyover states” don’t have a ton to offer in terms of exciting biking trails.

While you’ll have to travel a little west of the midline for this Crested Butte biking route, you won’t regret it. Crested Butte is one of Colorado’s most versatile locations, with skiing, mountain biking, boating, and anything else you can think of.

This is also a summer trail, which means May to September (since it’s in the mountains). The only downside to this trail is that you’ll have to spend a day or two acclimating to the elevation before attempting this mountain biking adventure.

Altitude sickness is a very real thing. During those days, you can always rent an electric bike and cruise around the town of Crested Butte. It has that classic low-key Colorado feel, with some historical old-west charm.

The Best Biking Trails Near Me

Whether you’re planning a trip to the Northeast, the Northwest, or the Almost-middle West, you’ve got great biking options all around. Doing your research and planning a specific trip to one of these trails beats googling “best biking trails near me” every time.

… Unless you live in one of these gorgeous locations, and if so, good for you!
