When Should You Call a Plumber for Your House?

The statistics say that 77 percent of home buyers face unexpected repair costs in the first year of owning a new home.

If you’re a seasoned homeowner, you know there is always something that needs to be repaired or replaced. One of these things may be your plumbing system.

Many things can go wrong with your plumbing system. This can be very frustrating and inconvenient.

The good news is that plumbing systems often give indications that they need some attention. Here are some of the signs that you need to call a plumber.

Poor Drainage

One of the main signs that you need to call a plumber is when there is improper drainage. If you notice that water is not going down the sink or your bathroom drain quickly enough, there could be some clogging in your plumbing system.

It is not uncommon for bathrooms to have a hair clogged drain or for a kitchen drain to be clogged from food particles. If you try using a plunger or drain snake but the problem is not resolved, it is usually time to call in a professional.

Clogged Toilet

One of the most unpleasant things that can happen in your home is having a clogged toilet. A toilet may become clogged for many reasons.

Often they are clogged because things are placed down the toilet drain that should not be flushed.

For example, baby wipes or toys can get into the toilet if you have young children. This can prevent the toilet from flushing and cause an overflow. Once your toilet starts overflowing, it’s time to get plumbing services.

Foul Odors

One of the unmistakable signs that hiring a plumber is necessary is when you start smelling sewage in your house. When your sewer system starts to go bad, then the smell can permeate your entire home. This odor can be hazardous to your health.

Sewage lines often become clogged over time. They may also suffer from poor ventilation.

Take a walk around your property to see if you can find any wet areas. These wet areas are often hard to miss as they will carry a strong odor.  If you find wet areas, be sure to inform your plumber; this will help them to fix the problem a lot quicker.

Time to Call a Plumber

Hiring a plumber is often the best course of action when you notice that something is wrong. The sooner you take action to correct the problem, the less likely you will deal with a severe inconvenience.

Plumbing systems are bound to have issues occasionally. This is because they are one of the most often used systems inside a house. However, most problems are usually easy to fix if you call a plumber who knows what they are doing.
